Victor Prieto Biography
Victor Prieto is an award winning journalist currently working as a sports multimedia journalist for FOX 5 Sports team . He originally joined the team as a producer for the station’s Atlanta Falcons programming in August 2021.
Victor Prieto Career
Prieto has covered the Braves World Series’ run, including the clubhouse celebration after clinching the National League East. In addition, he has been on the sidelines for almost every Falcons game since he began working.
Prior to joining FOX 5, Prieto worked for the USA Today Network with the Tennessean in Nashville, Tennessee. During his time there, he covered sports and won a Midsouth Emmy for best ‘Sports Story – News Feature’ about a champion blind golfer. Furthermore, Prieto is also a member of the Sports Journalism Institute, an organization working to enhance diversity in sports newsrooms.
Before Tennessee, he spent about two years as a sports anchor in WUFT News in Gainesville, Florida during his University of Florida days. Prieto wrote, produced and anchored the live sports segment for PBS Affiliate channel, serving more than 15 north central Florida counties. In addition, he represented the University of Florida at the Edward R. Murrow Awards, Hearst Journalism National Championships and the Broadcast Education Association Festival of Media Arts. Furthermore, Prieto finished 2nd place overall in the Hearst Multimedia National Championships. His features accumulated over 50,000 views across multiple platforms and shot high school and college sports for production. Additionally, he created melts with Adobe Premiere Pro and wrote scripts using AP ENPS.
Victor Prieto FOX 5 Atlanta
Previously, Prieto joined the Independent Florida Alligator to receive reporting experience at a traditional print publication. After covering Florida’s tennis and golf teams, he transitioned to TV and joined WUFT News.
He interned as a production assistant in Sunrise Video Production for three months. Prieto collaborated on professional sets with producers, coaches, athletes and reporters. In addition, he assisted in the set-up and filming of live shots in Miami, Florida, for ESPN’s Outside the Lines, SportsCenter and College Gameday. Furthermore, Prieto assisted in the set-up and filming of feature interviews for multiple networks, including the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team for MLBTV
He joined the Sports industry in high school with CCNN Live, a nationally acclaimed broadcast journalism program, and holding roles as a sports anchor, reporter, broadcaster and writer. Prieto was honored at the Sports Emmy Awards as the Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship Recipient for Sports Television in 2017.
He was born and raised in Miami, Florida. Prieto graduated with a bachelors degree in journalism with focus in sports and media from the University of Florida (sorry Dawg fans) in 2021. He was a recipient of back-to-back National Student Murrow Awards for Video Feature Reporting, Best Documentary from the Broadcast Education Association and Second Place in the Hearst Multimedia National Championships. In addition, he was also named the Jim McKay Memorial Scholarship Recipient for Sports Television at the Sports Emmy Awards in New York City in 2017.
Prieto enjoys sharing impactful stories in the world of sports and can’t wait to tell more stories within the Atlanta community. When he is not out with a camera in the field reporting, you can find him on the golf course or playing basketball. Prieto will also never turn down a plate of Cuban food.
