Maurer has more than 25 years of experience in broadcast and digital media. He joined FOX 5 Atlanta as an assignment editor and weekend web producer in August 2010. Maurer gathered and verified timely, accurate information and also researched, developed, and executed balanced stories. In addition, he assigned and coordinated crews and also developed extensive contacts and sources. His career in journalism began in his home state of Florida as a producer at SNN Local News 6 in Sarasota, Florida, it was an innovative newsroom that was among the first to embrace digital storytelling. During his time in SNN6 , he covered major events, including the 2000 presidential election and President George W. Bush’s visit on September 11, 2001.In addition, Maurer covered more hurricanes than he can count, including Hurricane Charley, a powerful storm that destroyed his hometown, Florida.
