Hanson is a member of CBS News and Stations Medical, Health, and Wellness Unit, a center of reporting excellence focused on delivering stories that matter to viewers.
He joined the CBS News Innovation Lab after serving as a New York-based anchor and correspondent for CBS News since 2018. During his time with CBS News, Hanson covered a wide range of stories, reporting for the “CBS Evening News,” “CBS Mornings,” CBS Newspath and CBS News 24/7, the organization’s streaming news network. He has also anchored CBS Stations’ “Now News,” a news program serving CBS-owned independent stations.
Since he began his career in journalism, Hanson has worked in more than 20 countries across five continents, and has covered many major news events around the world, often reporting from the scene.

Prior to joining CBS, Hanson worked at Channel One News as an anchor and correspondent for almost five years. Channel One News is the daily news service reaching more than 6 million students nationwide. Furthermore, he reported for Channel One News from more than 20 countries in five continents. Channel One has earned its reputation including two Peabody’s for sending correspondents all over the world to deliver magazine-style reports that educate America’s youth on global affairs.
Before joining Channel One News, Hanson was an Associate Producer at CNN in Atlanta, Georgia. There he worked on CNN’s New Day Weekend franchise. Prior to that, he was a news assistant in the CNN Washington D.C. Bureau during the 2012 election.
Moreover, he was in Iran during groundbreaking nuclear deal negotiations and covered military escalations on the Korean Peninsula in 2017. Hanson smuggled himself into Myanmar’s internment camps to document genocide, embedded with independent rebel militias in lawless regions of Mexico and tracked down elephant poachers in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, he also got a rare opportunity to interview the Dalai Lama at his compound in Northern India. Domestically, he has covered America’s Opioid Epidemic, the 2016 election, and the record-breaking hurricanes that battered the Gulf Coast in 2017.
Hanson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in multi-media journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in 2012.
