Tom Fitzgerald is an award winning journalist currently working as an anchor, reporter and host for FOX 5 DC. He joined the station in 2003.

Tom Fitzgerald Career
Fitzgerald anchors “Fox 5 Morning Sunday”, hosts “Fox 5 On The Hill” and a reports for FOX 5 News.
In 1985, he began his career in journalism at WBJB-FM, an NPR radio affiliate in Middletown Township, New Jersey as a newscaster and radio host. Fitzgerald next spent over six years as a reporter at TV34 News in Monmouth County, New Jersey. During his time at TV34 News, he covered the New Jersey House of Representatives and political campaigns. In addition, Fitzgerald covered organized crime investigations and multiple major hurricanes.
Prior to joining FOX 5 DC, he worked for six years at News 12 Networks in New Jersey as a reporter and anchor from 1996. Fitzgerald was part of the original lineup of on-air correspondents. Furthermore, he anchored, reported and hosted the political talk show “Roundtable”. In 2001, Fitzgerald covered the September 11 attacks shuttling between the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. In addition, he covered numerous Republican and Democratic National Conventions and also worked as the stations Jersey Shore Bureau Chief.
Fitzgerald joined FOX 5 DC in 2003 and covers the national political affairs. He has covered the Obama administration, participating in multiple prime time presidential news conferences at the White House. In addition, Fitzgerald attended all six hours of the Supreme Court of the United States arguments over President Obama’s Health Care Reform Law before the U.S. Supreme Court in 2012. Furthermore, he was present for the US Supreme Court as it heard arguments before landmark decision striking down the Washington, D.C. gun ban in 2008.

In addition, he covered the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio and the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fitzgerald reported from the Inaugural stand at the U.S. Capitol Building for the swearing in of President Donald Trump on January 20, 2017. He also covered the Inauguration of President Joe Biden at the Capitol on January 20, 2021.
Fitzgerald was born and raised in Howell Township, near the New Jersey Shore in the neighboring town to Bruce Springsteen’s hometown. He attended and graduated from Howell High School in 1984. Fitzgerald graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Media Studies from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey in 1989.
He is a recipient of three Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Furthermore, Fitzgerald has received five Emmy Award nominations and was a contributor to multiple Edward R. Murrow Awards given out to broadcast news organizations by the Radio – Television News Directors Associations.
When he is away from work, his interests are being the best parent and husband he can be for his family. Music is also a very big part of his life as growing up at the Jersey Shore constantly exposed him to new sounds and new bands. Fitzgerald still seeks out new music and this keeps him in touch with the world around him. Furthermore, he is also the owner of a particular sense of humor, a bit skewed, a bit at an angle, but having the ability to make other people laugh in a high-pressure environment is something he is glad he can do.
