Terry McSweeney Biography

Terry McSweeney is an award winning journalist currently working as an anchor for the weekend edition of NBC Bay Area News at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. McSweeney co-anchors the News with Gia Vang. He reports during the week and joined the station in 2013.

Terry McSweeney Career

Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, McSweeney worked at ABC7 KGO-TV in San Francisco as a reporter and fill in anchor since 2007 for six years. Before that, he worked in newsrooms all over the country such as KTXL channel 40 in Sacramento, California. Prior to that, McSweeney spent 1 year at WPBF in Palm Beach, California as an anchor and reporter. In addition, he worked in KSAZ in Phoenix, Arizona and WTEN in Albany, New York. At WTEN, McSweeney covered the September 11 terrorist attacks live from New York City. The Albany Times Union named him “Best Anchor”.

He previously worked for NBC Bay Area as a general assignment reporter from 1987 to 1995. Therefore, his return at the station is a homecoming. He was a recipient of two Edward R. Murrow awards during that time for his news reporting and coverage of breaking news.

McSweeney was born and raised in San Francisco, California. In addition, he is a devoted father and a life long Giants and 49ers fan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from San Francisco State University in 1981. McSweeney also attended University of California Berkeley.
