Shomari Stone Biography
Shomari Stone is an award winning journalist currently working as an anchor and reporter for FOX 5 DC. He joined the station in May 2023.

Shomari Stone Career
Stone is a recipient of seven Emmy Awards and two Edward R. Murrow awards. Prior to joining FOX 5, he worked at CNBC as a correspondent for “The News with Shepard Smith,” based at the network’s Washington, D.C. bureau. Before CNBC, Stone spent over 10 years as a general assignment reporter at WRC, an NBC owned television station in Washington, D.C.
Prior to WRC, he served as a television news reporter for KOMO-TV in Seattle, Washington D.C. for nearly three years. In addition, Stone spent over seven years as a television news reporter for WFOR CBS in Miami, Florida. He also worked WINK News in Fort Myers, Florida as a television news reporter for over a year. Smith began his career in journalism at The Michigan Daily in Ann Arbor, Michigan as a reporter for almost two years. He interned in several places like CNN for four months, BET for three months and ABC News for four months.

Throughout his broadcast career, Stone has reported on a multitude of high-profile stories across the country. Such as Hurricane Ian, the expansion of Veterans’ health care benefits and the Buffalo mass shooting. In addition, he covered the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, the bombing at the Boston Marathon and immigration reform. Stone also covered the local impact of Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s relinquished power. And the fall of Haitian President Jean Bertrand Aristide. Furthermore, he exclusively interviewed Trayvon Martin’s parents while they were in Washington, among others.
Smith graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication and Media Studies from the University of Michigan, where he received six journalism awards. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and cheering for his son, Shomari Stone II, on the University of Michigan Football team. Additionally, he also plays golf, hosts charity events and galas, along with mentoring and volunteering with the youth. Smith shared his weight loss journey to inspire others who are struggling as he once was.

Growing up he spent his summers in the DMV zone with his father and even graduated from St John’s College High School. His mother sacrificed to pay for his education, taught him the value of hard work and determination and exposed him to the world.

Stone died the knot with his wife Kristal Southern on 3 July, 2016 at Season’s 52 restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland.

He is a father to two children , a son Shomari Stone II whom he enjoys cheering for on the University of Michigan Football team and a daughter, Carrie who attends Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia.
