Shandel Menezes Career
Prior to joining NBC, San Diego, Menezes was working as a reporter at KYTX, CBS19 Tyler Texas for about 2 years. She says the East Texas weather is not for the faint hearted. Menezes experienced and covered Tornadoes, city wide evacuations, hurricanes and the 2021 deep freeze.
She started her career in journalism as an intern with Television Academy and FOX LA. In addition, Menezes also interned at WTVD and WRAL in Durham and Raleigh, North Carolina. While she was attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Menezes graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She was involved in mentorship group Movement of Youth and the Caribbean Student Association at the University of North Carolina. Additionally, she was involved with the Carolina Association of Black Journalists too.
Menezes took student immersion trips to learn from other journalists in London, England, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing, China. Furthermore, she got to do yoga on the Great Wall of China while there and the views were incredible.
When Menezes is not at work, she likes to cook, stay active in the gym, playing volleyball and spending time with her loved ones.
