Ron Gant Biography
Ron Gant is a former Atlanta Braves All-Star player currently working as a co-anchor of Good Day Atlanta FOX 5 team every weekday morning at 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. The former No. 5 in baseball is now on FOX 5! He joined the station in October 2012.
Ron Gant Career
Prior to joining FOX 5, Gant served as an analyst on FOX Sports South coverage of Atlanta Braves games for four years. Before that , he was a studio analyst for the MLB Network for “Hot Stove” and “MLB Tonight.” Previously, Gant served as commentator for the Atlanta Braves on TBS.
He spent six years with the Atlanta Braves, including playing in two World Series before his broadcasting career . He has lived in Atlanta for more than 20 years.
Gant is a former professional baseball outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) between 1987-2003 for eight different teams. He mainly played for the Atlanta Braves between 1987 and 1993, then St Louis Cardinals 1996-1998 and Philadelphia Phillies in 1999-2000. In addition, Gant joined the 30-30 club recording at least 30 stolen bases and 30 home runs in the same season in 1990 and 1991 while he was with the Atlanta Braves. He batted and threw right handed.
He played football and baseball in high school at Stem Middle School. Gant was recruited to play college baseball in schools such as Texas and Oklahoma but turned down the scholarship offers so as to play professional after high school.
Rob Gant Post-Braves Career
In 1994, Gant broke his right leg in an all terrain vehicle (ATV) accident, shortly after signing one of the richest contracts in Braves history. The Braves eventually released him; he would not play again until 1995. Emerging with the Cincinnati Reds before being signed by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1996.
Furthermore, 1997 was the low point of Gant’s career when he struck out 162 times and batted .229 for the Cardinals. After the Cardinals didn’t play him full-time in 1998 though he still hit 26 homers. He was traded with Jeff Brantley and Cliff Politte to the Philadelphia Phillies for Ricky Bottalico and Garrett Stephenson on 19 November.
In 1999, Gant batted a solid .260 with 17 home runs and 77 RBIs with the Phillies. He had 13 stolen bases and 107 runs scored, with 27 doubles and two triples in 134 hits. After a non-productive 2003 season with the Oakland Athletics (A’s), Gant retired at 38 years.
He batted .256 with 321 home runs and 1,008 RBIs n a 16 season career. Gant had 243 stolen bases and 1,080 runs scored in 1,832 games. In addition, he had 302 doubles and 50 triples in his career and ended with 1,651 hits in 6,449 at-bats. Furthermore, Gant averaged 20 home runs, 63 Runs Batted In (RBIs) and 15 stolen bases a year. In postseason play, he was a .228 hitter with eight home runs and 28 Runs Batted In (RBIs) in 52 playoff games; Gant had 43 hits in 189 at-bats.
