Nate Burleson is an award winning journalist currently working as a co-host of “CBS Mornings,”. He started in the position in September 2021 when he joined Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil on the CBS morning news program.

Burleson is also an Emmy Award-winning studio analyst for the CBS Sports’ NFL pre-game, halftime and post-game show, “The NFL Today,” and is the host of Nickelodeon’s “NFL Slime Time.”
As co-host of “CBS Mornings,” he has reported extensively on the importance of mental health and emotional wellbeing. In addition, his reporting has included interviews with a range of professional athletes, such as Kevin Love, Brandon Marshall and Didi Richards, to discuss how they have handled their mental health challenges. Moreover, Burleson also sat down with NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown for his first network news interview since abruptly quitting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the middle of a game.
He joined CBS Sports in 2017 and is a two-time Sports Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Sports Personality/Studio Analyst. As well as the winner of the Outstanding Playoff Coverage Emmy Award for the NFL Wild Card Game on Nickelodeon in 2021. In addition, he hosts a podcast with Uninterrupted, does voiceover work with Draft Kings, produces art, poetry, and music. Burleson has opened restaurants and launched a clothing label and a jewelry line.
Burleson played 11 years in the National Football League (NFL) as a wide receiver with the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. In 2003, he was drafted in the third round by the Minnesota Vikings. Furthermore, Burleson is the only player in NFL history to have three punt returns of 90-or-more yards. He was a communications major at the University of Nevada, Reno where he was a standout player for the Wolf Pack.

Burleson attended Rainier View Elementary School in Seattle, Washington D.C. He attended Lindbergh High School in the suburb of Renton as a freshman, and then transferred to O’Dea High School in Seattle, where he graduated. As a senior, he was named Seattle Times City Athlete of the Year. In addition, Burleson was also on the school’s track and field team, competing as a sprinter and hurdler. He won the state title in the 300 meters hurdle with a time of 38.70 seconds in 1999, and finished eighth in 110-metres hurdle as a junior.
Burleson hoped to attend the University of Washington, his father’s alma mater, but was not offered a football scholarship. Instead he accepted a scholarship from University of Nevada. Burleson graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Studies from University of Nevada, Reno in 2002.

His father, Al Burleson played defensive back for the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). His oldest brother, Alvin Jr. played college football for the University of Washington Huskies and Western Illinois University Leathernecks. One of his other older brothers played professional basketball and was formerly a point guard for the Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
His younger brother Lyndale played college backetball for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack. Kevin and Nate Burleson are one of only two sibling duos in which one brother played in the NBA while the other played in the NFL. As a mark of his father’s influence, Nate Burleson’s jersey number on the Seattle Seahawks, 81, was his father’s high school number.
In 1983, his father signed with the Los Angeles Express of the United States football League (USFL), relocating the family back to the United States. However, Burleson remains proud of his Canadian citizenship, sporting a maple leaf tattoo and expressing interest in playing for Canada in a World Cup of football to the media. After an injury ended Alvin Burleson’s playing career, he moved the family to his hometown of Seattle, Washington D.C., where he worked for Associated Grocers.
