Mike Inouye Biography 

Mike Inouye was born and raised in South Bay, Los Angeles and is currently working in NBC Bay Area’s weekday morning as a traffic anchor. He anchors Traffic for “Today in the Bay”, NBC Bay Area’s weekday morning news. In addition, Inouye is on every 10 minutes from 5:00 a.m. – 7:00a.m. . Then for the streaming-only newscast from 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and for breaking news throughout the Today Show.

Mike Inouye Career

Inouye’s roots are in technology. He first joined NBC Bay Area as an Internet Reporter. Inouye then served as an Information Technology Technician at the station before moving from behind the scenes to in front of the camera. He says he finally has a job that encompasses his passion for technology, communication, and live performance through reporting on traffic for Bay Area commuters.

His career roadmap has been varied, to say the least. Inouye was raised a local farmer, he has lived concurrent lives as high-tech professional, professional comedian, and newscaster.

Inouye has appeared at clubs varying from the Comedy Store© in Hollywood to ComedySportz© San Jose as a performer. In addition, he sometimes still performs as a professional improvisational comedian, as well as on-stage in roles with assorted Bay Area theater companies. In addition, his technology and performance skills have led to voice-over roles in games for Playstation 2, Xbox and other popular systems. Inouye is active in the local community and he is also often called upon to host live events. From local Japanese-American and Asian-American community events to NBC Bay Area’s Peacock Pavilion at festivals all around the Bay Area.

In his news career, he has been a recipient of four Radio Television Digital News Association (RTNDA) awards for his traffic reporting. In addition, he has received two Emmy awards for his morning news team. And a dozen additional Emmy nominations including one for his work on “Dreams to Dust”, a 2008 documentary on the WWII Japanese-American internment experience.
One of his great rewards has been the people Inouye has met through his roles as host and speaker at scores of live events each year. From a NASA astronaut to “Mr. Sulu”, from legends of the civil rights movement to U.S. Secretary Norman Mineta and U.S. Congressman Mike Honda. It has been an honor to meet many who have inspired him through the years.

He is an alumnus of Mountain View High School. Inouye graduated with a degree in Linguistics from the University of California Los Angeles, California. In his free time, he enjoys playing with digital photography and spending time with his wife and two children. 

Furthermore, Inouye proudly and actively supports the Japantown communities that have always been there for his family. His grandparents, parents, and now him, his wife and their two Gosei kids who have always called them “home”.
