Michelle Valles is an award-winning journalist currently working as a general assignment reporter for NBC4. She reports and anchors the station’s Today in LA on both weekdays and weekends from 7.00 to 8.00 a.m. and also the NBC4 News weekdays at 11 a.m. She joined NBC4 in 2012.

Valles reports breaking news daily and also interviews authors, filmmakers, dignitaries and local experts to cover issues with more depth and clarity. Her most memorable assignment at NBC4 is her coverage of Rodney king’s death. She anchored the station’s first breaking news on that story. Valles continued reporting from the field until evening the day the story broke.
Her other career highlights include reporting a two-part investigation on a Federal Mexican prison unfairly detaining Americans and the notorious Juarez murders. In addition, she highlights covering Mexican orphanage conditions, U.S Mexico border protest, hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Valles also covered Lady Bird Johnson’s death and 9/11. She was fascinated by her candid and exclusive interview with Willie Nelson about his marijuana use. They also discussed his efforts to decriminalize the drug in the U.S.
Valles is a recipient of the prestigious National Hispanic Medial Coalition Impact Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism in 2017. She has previously been voted Best Anchor by the Texas Associated press, the Austin Chronicle and Rare Magazine. In addition, Valles was part of the news team that won the Best Newscast Award from the Texas Associated Press in 2007. She was also selected to be included in the prestigious Fortunate 500 list by the Austin American Statesman. Valles was in the list for seven consecutive years because of her community service work.
She is a national ambassador for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and dedicated to community service. Additionally, Valles has given her time to countless local nonprofit organizations.
She is fluent in Spanish and an active member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
