Maurice DuBois Biography

Maurice DuBois is an award-winning journalist currently working as a co-anchor of the “CBS Evening News” in New York with John Dickerson, the flagship evening broadcast on CBS News since 1 August, 2024 replacing Norah O’Donnell. DuBois brings more than three decades of experience to the newscast; the last 14 years as co-anchor of CBS New York’s (WCBS) 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts. He joined the network in 2004 and left WCBS-TV in January 2025 to focus on the national broadcast.

DuBois has covered numerous breaking news stories throughout his career, including everything from local news to national political conventions and elections, AIDS in South Africa, 9/11 and papal transition at the Vatican. Furthermore, he has moderated debates for New York governor, New York City mayor and Congress. DuBois has reported on a broad spectrum of American life and culture, interviewing numerous newsmakers including “Son of Sam” killer David Berkowitz, music star Cardi B, and the Central Park Five. He also witnessed and reported on a double execution.

Moreover, DuBois has contributed reporting across CBS News programs and platforms, including 60 Minutes Sports, “CBS News Sunday Morning,” “48 Hours,” “CBS Mornings” and the CBS News 24/7 Streaming Network. DuBois was born and raised in Long Island, New York. Prior to joining CBS News, he spent seven years at WNBC-TV. While at NBC News, Dubois appeared on “Today,” “Weekend Today,” “Dateline NBC,” MSNBC and NBC News at Sunrise. During his time at WNBC-TV, he hosted “Four Stories,” a television magazine profiling local heroes, and hosted Court TV’s “Mind over Media,” for students to understand media images.

Before joining WNBC-TV, DuBois worked in Chicago and Sacramento. He began his journalism career in 1987 at KING-TV in Seattle, Washington D.C. as a desk assistant before becoming a reporter. Additionally, he is a recipient of multiple journalism and community awards, including five Emmys. DuBois has also been recognized with honors from The Associated Press, The New York State Broadcasters Association and The New York Association of Black Journalists, which honored him with its Trailblazer Award.

He has further served on several nonprofit boards, including Access Psychology Foundation, NY City Center, PENCIL, Susan G. Komen for the Cure/NYC and The Northside Center for Child Development. DuBois is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

DuBois attended Port Jefferson High School and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Chicago. In addition, he has received four honorary Doctor Of Philosophy (PHDs) degrees from Briarcliffe College in Bethpage, New York, Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York, Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey and St Francis College in Brooklyn, New York. Dubois lives in Harlem, New York with his wife and two sons.
