Mark Mullen Biography
Mark Mullen is an Emmy Award-winning domestic and foreign Correspondent for NBC News. His career has taken him to the furthest reaches of the world. He is currently working as an anchor for NBC 7 News weeknights 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. with Catherine Garcia and Monica Dean. He joined the station in 2010.

Before taking the helm as an anchor for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts with Catherine Garcia and Monica Dean he worked as the Chief Asia correspondent. Mullen was the correspondent for NBC News based in Beijing, regularly covering notable Asian and Chinese current events. He did an in-depth coverage of The Olympics – filing stories for NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, MSNBC and CNBC. Mullen was the first journalist to broadcast a live report from Tiananmen Square in the run up to the 2008 Olympics. Since the 1989 Chinese government crackdown on student demonstrators in the square.
Mullen’s assignments over the years have also included reporting from war zones. He was recognized for his Iraq story regarding the Kurd’s first ever vote in the country’s historic election. In addition, Mullen also covered stories in the Middle East, Europe and across the US such as Hurricane Katrina, the aftermath of 9/11 and The California Wildfires. Most of the stories he did as an NBC domestic correspondent were based in Southern California, multiple in San Diego.

Before joining NBC, Mullen worked at ABC News in New York as an anchor for World News Now and America This Morning. Additionally he was a correspondent for ABC’s World News Tonight and Good Morning America.
His career began in 1987 after graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Loyola University in New Orleans from 1981 to 1987. Furthermore, he studied Spanish language and History at the St. Louis University in Madrid. Mullen’s first job was as an anchor and reporter for WLOX-TV, Biloxi Mississippi. He later worked in newsrooms at KDFW-TV in Dallas in 1989, KRON-TV in San Francisco in 1991 and KING-TV in Seattle. Mullen returned to KRON -TV prior to joining NBC News as a national correspondent in 2003.
He is a recipient of multiple national and regional wards for anchoring and reporting, including a National Emmy Award for outstanding News Coverage. Mullen was also named Outstanding Young Journalist of the year by the Society of Professional Journalists.
