Lynette Romero Biography

Lynette Romero is an award winning, well-known and respected journalist at NBC4’s weekday newscast “Today in LA”. She is working as a co-anchor alongside co-anchor Adrian Arambulo and meteorologist Belen De Leon on mornings from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Romero has more than thirty years of news experience and dozens of awards and accolades from the community. Her resourcefulness and in-depth reporting have included coverage of numerous Southern California’s biggest stories. She has been both in front and behind the camera reporting and producing numerous programs and specials. In addition, assignments in other countries like Mexico, El Salvador, Italy and the Czech Republic.

She joined NBC4 in 2022 following a long career at KTLA-TV in Los Angeles. Romero worked as an anchor and reporter in the station in almost every newscast, including as a weekend anchor for morning news. Her sudden exit from KTLA  caused confusion, fan-driven boycotts, and the firing of a co-anchor Mark Mester who supported her on an Off-Script Tribute. Before that, she served as an anchor and reporter at NBC affiliate KUSA-TV in Denver for a decade. She reported on the 1993 papal visit, the Waco standoff and the bombing of the Oklahoma City Federal Building.

Romero is extremely committed to giving back to the local community. She is active in several charities and events that support students and and undeserved neighborhoods all over California. In addition, she is also extra passionate about increasing awareness of Alzheimer’s, memory loss and dementia facing the aging population. Romero lost her mother to this devastating disease.

She has received six Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards such as one for best feature news reporting. Additionally, she is a recipient of several Golden Mike awards from the Radio and Television National News Association of Southern California. Romero received the award for her roles as an anchor, reporter and producer. Furthermore, Romero is a recipient of the Broadcast Journalism Award from the National Hispanic Media Coalition in 2015 and also Latina Journalist of the Year by CCNMA in 2022.

Romero has a sister too.

Romero and David Angulo met during a five week crash course on Spanish fluency in University of Guadalajara. However, their relationship rose during their studies and was a complete surprise. They met in January of 1994 and as they left Mexico, It appeared they may never meet again at the time as David lived in Los Angeles and she lived in Denver. They exchanged vows in 2003 , at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens as it had a fabulous setting for their wedding and reception.

Doctors found a tumor in her husband’s kidneys about a year ago. A surgery to remove the tumor went well and doctors were able to save 75% of his kidney.

She is a proud mother of a daughter, Olivia Romero Angulo who joined college about 2 years ago. Olivia is around 20 years old and has constantly surprised her mother on mother’s day with flowers and tributes on air.
