Lori Geary Biography
Lori Geary is a former Emmy Award winning political reporter currently working as the moderator of FOX 5’s weekly public affairs program “The Georgia Gang”. The show airs on Sundays at 8:30 a.m. She joined the station in March 2019.
Lori Geary Career
The Georgia Gang is a long-running public affair program broadcast in Atlanta Georgia. Geary took over from Dick Williams who served as the host of the show for many years. The show features two panelists from the left and two from the right. Panelists have included Tharon Scott, Alexis Johnson and Janelle King. Williams died in January 2022 and was married to journalist and mayor Rebecca Chase Williams. She is a partner with Lexicon Strategies and president of Lori Geary Media, a National Women’s Business Enterprise (NWBE™) certified firm.
Geary has spent decades in the media industry covering local, state and national campaigns along with state government. Prior to joining Fox 5 Atlanta, she was a reporter for WSB-TV, Atlanta in 1997 while anchoring at CNN Headline News. Besides, hosting “The Georgia Gang”, Geary stays active in the broadcasting world as a panelist for Georgia Public Broadcasting’s “Political Rewind.” Furthermore, her expertise is now in media training, media strategy, corporate communications, crisis communications and storytelling.
Geary was named “One of the Best State Political Reporters” by the Washington Post and “One of the Most Influential Georgians” by James Magazine. In addition, she has won multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Georgia Associated Press. Geary is also proud of the two Emmys she received during her tenure at WSB-TV along with a Telly for her investigative work in Haiti. Furthermore, she was also a 2018 Telly Award winner for a video production focusing on the life of African-American entrepreneur Alonzo F. Herndon. Geary has received top honors from the League of Women Voters and Common Cause Georgia. She is also a 2006 graduate of Leadership Atlanta.

Geary graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse University, Newhouse School of Communications in 1992. She graduated magna cum laude in three years and started her first job as a reporter at WRDW-TV in Augusta, Georgia for two years . Geary then moved to WLFL Channel 2 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Where she covered politics for three years before her career brought her to Atlanta.
She currently serves as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors for Sunshine on a Ranney Day. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit provides dream home and room make-overs for children with special needs. With the help of Geary’s leadership, the charity continues to raise $1 million annually and has completed more than 85 home renovations across Georgia. In addition, she also serves on the Advisory Board of the Zell Miller Foundation, a 501(c)(3) focusing on developing young leaders committed to public service.
