Lilia Luciano Biography

Lilia Luciano is a multiple award-winning journalist currently working as a CBS News 24/7 anchor and correspondent based at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City. She joined the network in March 2020.

Luciano’s reporting features across CBS News’ broadcasts and platforms since March 2020, when she joined the Network as a freelance correspondent. Furthermore, Luciano has covered major stories on the West Coast, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, Oregon, immigration at the border in Arizona and California, and wildfires in Oregon and California.

Prior to joining CBS News, she was an investigative reporter at ABC 10 in Sacramento, California, from 2016 to 2019. In 2018, Luciano was the chief investigative correspondent for Discovery Channel’s Border Live, telling immersive stories about the people who live, work, and survive along the U.S.-Mexico border and the founder of CoInspire, an interview series about entrepreneurship in partnership with Rokk3r Labs. Additionally, she also worked as a host and contributor at multiple VICE platforms. Before that, Luciano was a correspondent for NBC News, where she reported in English and Spanish for all network platforms. Luciano began her career in journalism at Univision Networks as correspondent and co-anchor for evening newscast En Vivo y Directo.

Moreover, she is the recipient of numerous journalism awards, including a Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2018 for a four-part series on Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. Luciano has also received a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for her coverage of California wildfires, and five regional Emmys.

In addition to her work in front of the camera, she is also a filmmaker and documentary producer. Luciano directed and produced “Wars of Others,” an HBO Latino documentary film about the consequences of the U.S. war on drugs on Colombian farmers.

Since 2013, she has served on the Advisory Board of the United Nations Foundation Girl Up Campaign and is a Today I am Brave Speaker series. In 2010, she served as spokesperson to the Univision and Bill Gates Foundation’s Education Campaign, “Es El Momento”, as well as a supporter and collaborator with St Jude Children’s Reseach Hospital and Walk Now for Autism.

She was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico and is fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Luciano attended Tufts University to study pre-medicine however, in 2003 she transferred to the University of Miami and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Broadcast Journalism in 2007.
