Kira Klapper Biography
Kira Klapper is a skilled journalist currently working as an anchor for Today in the Bay: weekend edition on Saturday and Sunday mornings. She also reports for Today in the Bay on Fridays. Klapper joined the station in September 2014.
Kira Klapper Career
She has worked as a journalist for more than decade. Before joining NBC Bay Area, Klapper was a general assignment reporter and substitute anchor at KGO-TV ABC7 in San Francisco. At the station, she covered daily breaking news stories as well as in-depth reports. In addition, she reported on stories varying from the Asiana Airlines crash to the historic opening of the new eastern span of the Bay Bridge.
Before arriving in the Bay Area, Klapper spent two years anchoring the evening news, reporting and producing for the GOCOM Media the CBS & NBC stations in the Chico, Redding region of Northern California. In addition, she also worked two years as a morning live reporter, multimedia journalist, substitute anchor, and fill-in weather anchor. For the KEYT NewsChannel 3, KCOY NewsChannel 12, KKFX My Fox 11 the FOX and CBS affiliates in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Klapper was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, concentration in Broadcast Journalism and Spanish from Boston University. Klapper returned to Boston University to speak to a classroom of journalism students. She offered an overview of her road to success, and advice on how to get where she is today.

She began her broadcast career in KEYC News Now in Mankato, Minnesota as a multimedia journalist. In addition, Klapper also worked as “One man band” shooting and editing her own videos and also writing daily reports. Furthermore, she also produced and anchored the weekend newscasts. After graduation, she got a paid internship at ABC News in her hometown Los Angeles, California as a production assistant for ten months.
In her free time, you can catch Klapper spending time with her two sons, going to concerts, and traveling with her family. For almost 15 years, she has supported and encouraged women’s heart health through the Go Red for Women initiative. In addition, Klapper also spends her time volunteering and encouraging people to adopt shelter pets.
