Kelvin Henry Biography

Kelvin Henry is a skilled journalist currently working as a Reporter at NBC 7 San Diego where he covers the region’s biggest stories. He joined the station in 2021.

Kelvin Henry Career

In his time at NBC 7, Henry has covered a wide range of stories, such as Hurricane Hilary preparation, destruction and the cleanup efforts. In addition, he reported on the recall effort against Governor Newsom and San Diego’s pandemic recovery. Furthermore, Henry did a special report on the Salton Sea Lithium resources fueling the electric vehicle boom. He also spearheaded an in-depth special coverage on San Diego’s response to the uptick in the community’s use of “Tranq”. Xylazine, or “tranq,” is a veterinary sedative found in some illicit drugs and is linked to overdose and other issues.

His work has appeared on NBC platforms including MSNBC, CNBC, KNBC (LA) and WNBC (NY).

Before joining NBC 7, he worked three years at ABC57 in South Bend, Indiana. At the station, Henry broke multiple stories such as the state of Michigan’s proposed takeover of the Benton Harbor School District. Lead was found in the Benton Harbor water supply and he landed an exclusive interview with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Regarding the state’s plan to carry out the take over of the school district due to the district failing to meet academic standards. In addition, Henry also closely reported former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s Presidential run. He started his career in journalism at CNN as a News Associate in the network’s Washington D.C. bureau. Henry was also a reporting intern at NBC4 Washington (WRC-TV), ABC 7 NY (WABC-TV) and News 12 Long Island.

He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Political Science from Hofstra University. In addition, he received a Master’s Degree in Broadcast Journalism & Public Affairs from American University in 2017. Henry was born and raised in New York City. He is also an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists. (NABJ).
