Kari Hall Biography
Kari Hall is an award winning journalist currently working as a meteorologist for NBC Bay Area’s morning newscast Today in The Bay. She joined the station in May 2015.
Kari Hall Career
Hall is a self identified weather fanatic. She was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and that is where her love for weather started at an early age. Hall wanted to learn it all, from droughts to floods and snowstorms to tornadoes. Weather was always her passion. As a child, she would tell people she wanted to be a meteorologist and they would say…well, that’s different! In Kentucky there’s extreme cold, lots of snow, flooding, drought, crazy storms, and extreme heat.
In addition, the wide range of weather through the year raised her curiosity about why it occurs. Furthermore, Hall began reaching out to local meteorologists about how they got to their positions. She found out that many meteorologists graduated from Mississippi State University. So that’s where she went. She is a proud Bulldog with a degree in Geosciences with an emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology.
Kari Hall NBC Bay Area
She started her career at KATC in Lafayette, Louisiana and covered severe weather events such as Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Gustav. Hall worked at the station for six years and briefly worked in Alexandria, Louisiana. In addition, she moved to her home state to work at WKYT in Lexington, Kentucky as a weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter. In 2012, a historic tornado outbreak hit Eastern Kentucky and it killed twenty people. Hall covered that tragedy and was touched by how communities came together to comfort each other and recover from the damage.
Three years later she landed an evening weekday meteorologist position at News12 Connecticut. Hall had the opportunity to forecast Nor’easters and learn about New England weather for two years. Living outside of New York City was exciting but a bit of a shock to her because she has lived in small cities and rural areas most of her life. The chance to move to California came up and she didn’t think twice.
Hall graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geoscience with an emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. She is a member of the American Meteorological Society and has a seal of approval from the National Weather Association. In addition, she has received an Emmy award two times.
In her spare time, Hall enjoys being outdoors, traveling, Zumba dancing, and cooking. She is married and has two children, a son and a daughter.
