Josh Rosenthal Biography

Josh Rosenthal is an award winning journalist currently working as a reporter for FOX 5 DC. He joined the station in September 2018.

Josh Rosenthal Career

At FOX 5 DC, Rosenthal works as a live, enterprise reporter leading the Fox5 DC newscasts nightly. He reports creatively and with memorable live shots. In addition, Rosenthal is known in D.C. for his hard and fair on the spot questioning. Furthermore, he is the go-to reporter regularly covering everything from breaking news to in-depth investigations. Rosenthal also created a podcast, Rambling and Gambling-for the novice gambler looking to dabble in the world of online sports betting.

Prior to joining FOX 5 DC, he spent over five years at KSTP-TV in St. Paul, Minnesota as a reporter. During his time at the station, Rosenthal, broke stories consistently for every newscast by fostering relationships with contacts ranging from the TSA to MN.IT, the state agency overseeing cyber security across Minnesota. In addition, he wrote fast web copy to break stories online and was the on air Court Reporter for the trial of Officer Jeronimo Yanez following the shooting death of Philando Castile.

Rosenthal further developed deep sources within Minnesota’s growing Somali community during the largest federal terror trial in U.S. History. He was a transportation reporter regularly breaking stories regarding Minnesota’s crumbling infrastructure and lack of funding to properly address roads, bridges and public transportation. Furthermore, Rosenthal was the Tech Reporter tasked with detailing and explaining hacks and privacy from the state level to personal accounts. He was also a regular political reporter constantly keeping up with unique sources among Minnesota lawmakers.

Before Minnesota, Rosenthal worked at KLRT FOX16 in Little Rock, Arkansas as a reporter for over two years. He was crime reporter regularly developing fast relationships with victims for exclusive interviews and coverage. In addition, Rosenthal was the live lead reporter for multiple daily newscasts. He anchored segment “Arkansas’ Most Wanted” for 9pm and 10pm newscasts by cultivating relationships within the U.S. Marshals Service.

Rosenthal began his career in journalism at WCJB TV20 in Gainesville, Florida as a reporter and anchor for over two years. He successfully proved through investigations and an expose widespread plagiarism at an award-winning magazine and revealed nepotism within a Florida Sheriff’s Office. In addition, Rosenthal was the news Anchor for the 10pm newscast and multimedia journalist providing lead stories for the 11pm newscast. He interned at Sportstalk 980, WTEM in Rockville, Maryland for six months. Rosenthal interviewed NBA players and coaches after Washington Wizards games and also edited sound for broadcast on Washington, D.C. sports radio station.

He had the privilege of being a witness to history, winning a Regional Emmy Award for his coverage of the death of Prince. Rosenthal is a recipient of both a regional Edward R. Murrow award and a regional Emmy Award for his coverage of the protests that broke out after the acquittal of police officer Jeronimo Yanez, who shot and killed Philando Castile during a traffic stop outside of St. Paul, Minnesota in 2016.
