Smith is thrilled to be sharing the most important stories of the day across FOX 5’s digital platforms and social media. She produces engaging digital content, including text, photos and slideshows, videos and live streams. Smith also communicates with producers and reporters to ensure constant coverage of breaking and developing news events and posts them to the station’s digital platforms. In addition, she develops push alerts and newsletter content to highlight key local and national stories. She also monitors and reviews Chartbeat analytics and Google Trends to improve search engine optimization (SEO) and optimize content. Furthermore, Smith makes on-air appearances to highlight key trending content and drive viewers to digital platforms.
Prior to joining FOX 5 DC, she worked for the syndicated television show The National Desk in Washington, D.C. as a digital content producer for nearly two years. During her time at The National Desk, Smith wrote and published clean web copy in a fast-paced environment for a national audience. In addition, she developed digital and social content strategy for TND website, YouTube and social channels. Smith curated content for social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. Furthermore, she developed daily time-sensitive stories and evergreen content ideas, projects and initiatives for all digital platforms. Smith also assisted in the development of digital content presentation and best practices for the new website.
Before moving to Washington D.C., she spent over four years as the evening digital content producer for the FOX affiliate FOX46 Charlotte, WJZY-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. Smith wrote and edited breaking news stories, original digital content and reporter copy. Additionally, she developed engaging short-form content for the station’s website and social media channels. Smith constantly monitored social media platforms and responded to the station’s social audience.

She began her career in journalism at Pace Communications in Greensboro, North Carolina as an associate editor and communications manager for a year. Smith edited and posted content to the Pace blog and Content+ digital magazine, specializing in news writing, copy editing, and editorial gathering using AP style. In addition, she developed and posted social media content on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Smith produced content for blog, Content+, newsletters, email campaigns, press releases and whitepapers. Furthermore, she sent at least one mass email per month, improving average open rate by 4.1% and click rate by 1.9%. Smith also developed ability to work independently and with a team to handle multiple demands and competing priorities simultaneously in a deadline-oriented environment.
Her love of journalism began in high school when she began writing and interning with several print and online publications. Smith went on to serve as editor-in-chief of the historically African-American newspaper The Nubian Message at North Carolina State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication and Media Studies (Go Pack!) in May 2016. She also graduated with a Master of Arts Degree in Digital Communication from Johns Hopkins University Advanced Academic Programs in May 2021.
In her spare time, Smith enjoys cooking and baking, curling up with a good book and cuddling with her two dogs, Bella and Bailey. She’s happy to call the DMV home and loves exploring the best restaurants across the area.
