Jericka Duncan Biography

Jericka Duncan is an award winning journalist based in New York City currently working as a national correspondent and anchor of the “CBS Weekend News.” She joined the network in 2013.

Jericka Duncan Career

Duncan has been a CBS News correspondent since 2013 and has reported such significant stories as accusations against R Kelly, Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein. In addition, she has covered the shooting deaths of four Marines and a Navy sailor in Chattanooga, the 70th anniversary of D-Day and Normandy; as well as a variety of national breaking news stories. In 2018, Duncan spent time in Washington D.C. covering the White House.

Furthermore, her recent reporting includes an interview with an Ohio woman charged with a felony after a miscarriage, a moving report on a 5-year-old boy from Gaza receiving medical care in the U.S., and a conversation with NBA star Steph Curry on embracing difference. During the 2024 presidential election, she traveled across the country to speak with voters and officials about the future of America.

Moreover, Duncan also reported from Pennsylvania for the 2020 presidential election and interviewed the mother of Breonna Taylor, including breaking the news to the CBS audience that no one would be charged directly with Taylor’s death. Additionally, she also was one of the first network correspondents on the ground in Alabama to cover the passage of that state’s most restrictive abortion bill since Roe v. Wade. Duncan has also reported a variety of national breaking news stories that have taken her outside of the United States.

She is an Emmy-nominated journalist who has received several awards for her reporting, including two National Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association and honors from the Associated Press and the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, which named her Journalist of the Year in 2012.

Prior to joining CBS News, Duncan spent three years at KYW, the CBS-owned TV station in Philadelphia. At KYW, she earned first place from the Associated Press for a series of reports on disabled adults who were held captive in a Social Security scam. Duncan also covered Hurricane Irene in 2011 and Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

Before KYW, Duncan was a reporter for WIVB (CBS) in Buffalo, New York, from 2007 to 2010. While there, she received a local Emmy Award in the Best Morning Show category for her winter storm coverage in 2008. In 2009 she was one of the first reporters at the scene of a plane crash near Buffalo that killed 50 people. Her coverage further contributed to the station winning two national Edward M. Murrow Awards. She began her journalism career in 2005 in nearby Elmira, New York, where she covered the search for Ralph “Bucky” Phillips – the longest manhunt for a fugitive in state history. Duncan received a New York State Broadcasters Association Award for Best Spot News Coverage in 2007.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in June 2005. Duncan recently received a Juris Master in American Legal Studies from Liberty University. Furthermore, she is a 2005 NAACP Image Award recipient and in 2006 was a fellow at a North Carolina A&T conference on childhood obesity.

In addition, Duncan is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and has volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club and the Black Leadership Commission on AIDS. In her free time, she enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her family.

She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in June 2005.Duncan is a member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority. In college, she continued to run track & field and was captain of the track team. In addition, Duncan received the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award of Athletics in 2005. She recently received a Juris Master in American Legal Studies from Liberty University.

She was born and raised in Aurora, Ohio. Her father is Ronnie Duncan, a sports anchor at CBS News Detroit (WWJ) and her mother is Yvonne Duncan . Duncan has two siblings, a brother Joshua and a sister Jasmine Duncan.
