Jeff Ranieri Biography
Jeff Ranieri is an Emmy award-winning journalist currently working as a Chief Meteorologist for NBC Bay Area on Weekdays at 5, 6 and 11 p.m. He joined the station in May 2009.
Jeff Ranieri Career
Ranieri’s main passion is forecasting the complex microclimates of the Bay area. Temperatures vary from 50° to 100° in a 35 mile radius.
Furthermore, he is well known for his personality driven live remote forecasts from events and locations everywhere in the Bay Area. A few outstanding – Golfing on Pebble Beach and sliding on ice with Kristi Yamaguchi. In addition, Ranieri also managed to turn sports into weather while covering the San Francisco Giants 2010 quest for the World Series Championship.
He also enjoys getting involved in the community and he is working with “Fly” Fresh Lifelines For Youth and Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley. In addition, Ranieri is working with SF Project Open Hand, San Francisco SPCA “Clear The Shelters Event” and Safeway Holiday Food Drive. He is also involved with Silicon Valley’s CAMP / Asian Real Estate Association (AREAA) Annual Holiday Charity Fundraiser,
Besides serving as the Chief Meteorologist and occasional live feature reporting. Ranieri has also served as the “Olympic Zone” host during the London, Sochi, Rio & PyeongChang games. Taking fans to some of the top stories and highlights during the half-hour shows.
After joining NBC Bay Area, he has also continued contributing to NBC Network coverage which included the tsunami warning for the entire West Coast. In addition, he headed back East to track Hurricane Irene and most recently reporting on the 6.0 Napa Earthquake.

Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, Ranieri was based in New York City for almost five years with NBC News. He worked as a correspondent for NBC News & MSNBC and served as the Weekend Today Show Meteorologist and Early Today. In addition, Ranieri has covered a wide range of important weather events from the studio and from the field. Such as Hurricane Katrina in Biloxi, Mississippi and historic Midwest flooding. He also traveled to Torino and Beijing to cover the 2006 and 2008 Olympic Games.
Before joining NBC Network in New York City in 2004, Ranieri was a Meteorologist at KCRA 3 & My58 Television in Sacramento, California for four years. He also worked at KDRV-TV | KDKF-TV in Medford, Oregon as a meteorologist and feature reporter. Prior to Oregon, Ranieri worked at WUFT News, University of Florida for two years as a News Anchor, Reporter, Editor and Weather Anchor. He began his career at WESH 2 CW18 in Orlando, Florida for two years as a Production Assistant, Floor Director and Camera Operator.
