Gordon Tokumatsu Biography

Gordon Tokumatsu is an Emmy award winning journalist currently working as a general assignment reporter for NBC4. He joined the station in 1993.

Gordon Tokumatsu Career

Tokumatsu has reported countless high profile news since he joined NBC4. Such as an LAPD officer who gave a ticket to an elderly woman for moving too slowly on a crosswalk. The story stirred national interest and was aired by several media outlets. He was the first to disclose the identities of the two men arrested in the deadly North Hollywood bank robbery/shoot-out in 1997. In addition, Tokumatsu was the first to report on the controversial Los Angeles County Coroner’s office harvesting of corneas. He also reported on the tragic Oklahoma City bombing and the Northridge earthquake in 1994.

Before joining NBC4, Tokumatsu worked as a general assignment reporter for KCRA-TV , the NBC affiliate in Sacramento. He was also the host and producer for Perceptions, a quarterly documentary-style Asian public affairs program. Additionally, Tokumatsu provided the sole live coverage from Hawaii of Hurricane Iniki for all satellite news network. His reports were aired worldwide through NBC News Channel and other outlets.

Prior to that, he was the general assignment reporter for KLAS-TV in Las Vegas. Tokumatsu began his TV career at KESQ-TV in Palm Springs-California. He got the broadcasting bug while working as a newswriter at KNX News Radio in Los Angeles, California.

Tokumatsu was born and raised in Hawaii. He is half “Nisei” or a second generation Japanese-American and also half English/Norwegian. Tokumatsu devotes his time supporting Asian community events. In addition, he is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association. Tokumatsu enjoys writing fiction, working out and mountain climbing. He lives in Los Angeles, California.

Tokumatsu voiced Mike Van Hatofapilgrim for Phineas and Ferb in “Der Kinderlumper” in 2007.
