Derek Togerson Biography
Derek Togerson is a multiple award winning journalist currently working in NBC San Diego as a Sports reporter, anchor, shooter and producer. He joined the station in 2005.

Derek Togerson Career
Togerson began his sports career at KESQ radio in Palm Springs after graduating from California State University, Fullerton in 1997. He worked as a co-host of a sports talk radio call in show and news producer at KESQ TV.
Togerson then moved to Yakima, Washington where he worked as Sports Director at KAPP. Next he moved on to WCAU in Philadelphia then to KPNX in Phoenix prior to coming to San Diego.
Togerson is a father of three children. When he is not busy tracking the latest sports headline, he enjoys running, fishing, attempting to golf, cooking and throwing batting practice.

At three years, Togerson picked up a whiffle bat and hit his first home run. Sure, it was off a tee and the “fence” was his parents’ couch but it felt like a bomb over the Green Monster at Fenway Park. He’s been a sports fanatic ever since.
Togerson was lucky enough to channel that love of competition into a journalism career. That has lasted nearly 30 years and led to numerous professional honors, including multiple Emmy Awards.
He has worked in several states such as San Diego, Phoenix and Philadelphia. Togerson has covered some of the biggest events on the sports calendar, from the Super Bowl to the World Series. In addition, he has covered the NBA Finals to golf’s U.S. Open to March Madness to Hall of Fame inductions and just about anything else you can think of.
His specialty is the National Football League. Furthermore, he was embedded with the Chargers for a decade, attending every practice and game. While also covering the NFL in general as a reporter and producer of decorated football programs. He also keeps close tabs on college football, one of the benefits of being married to an Auburn Girl (War Eagle!).
His favorite player is Philip Rivers, a retiree but he still loves him. Additionally, his favorite sports team is San Diego Padres.
