Damian Trujillo Biography
Damian Trujillo is an award winning journalist working as a reporter, host and producer of “Comunidad Del Valle,” the longest running public affairs program for NBC Bay Area news since 1996. The program now also airs in Spanish on Telemundo 48 too.
Damian Trujillo Career
Trujillo has been a recipient of awards from the Associated Press, the Radio and Television News Director’s Association (RTNDA), and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. In addition, he was named “2004 Reporter of the Year” by the Associated Press Television and Radio Association for California and Nevada. Trujillo has been five times for an Emmy Award nominee.
He grew up in Greenfield, about 2 hours south of San Francisco on Highway 101. While in high school, Trujillo worked in the agricultural fields of the Salinas Valley, with his family, to help make ends meet. He picked garlic, broccoli, cucumbers, and strawberries.
Trujillo now honors his first job as a former farm worker on the Cesar Chavez Holiday. He hosts family, friends and students on every 31 March. They make sacked lunches at the Trujillo home, and distribute them to about 250 farm workers in the South Bay. The gesture is a “thank you “ to farm workers, for their tireless work. Furthermore, annually, the Trujillo family awards a college scholarship to the son or daughter of a farm worker in Greenfield.

A half hour documentary on the life of Damian Trujillo titled “From the Fields: An American Journey” was produced by Carolyn Brown, professor at American University in Washington D.C in 2012. In addition, he has screened the film in several places such as Stanford, Georgetown and Harvard Universities and at the National Steinbeck Center. Moreover, Trujillo got an invite to the congress on Capitol Hill for a special screening on April 2013.
Prior to joining NBC Bay Area in 1996, he worked at KSTS Telemundo 48 in San Jose, California for two years as a reporter and Assignment Editor. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the San Jose State University in 1993.
He is married to his wife Monica and they have a daughter, Malyna, and twins Isela and Michael Damian.
