Brooke Martell Biography
Brooke Martell is a skilled journalist currently working for NBC7 as a meteorologist. She joined NBC 7 in 2021 as a freelance forecaster and reporter. Martell got an offer for a fulltime staff position in 2023.
Brooke Martell Career
She was born and raised on the central coast and grew up in San Luis Obispo County playing sports, dancing and performing in musical theatre. Martell is a lover of arts and storytelling, she therefore knew from a young age she wanted to work in television.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from San Diego State University. In addition, she received the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program certificate through Mississippi State University in 2023. Martell worked at KPBS and interned at none other than NBC7 in the second half of her college years. She worked for five years in her hometown covering news and weather at KSBY-TV in San Luis Obispo. In 2021, Martell got an opportunity to join NBC7 as a freelance forecaster and reporter. She got an offer for a fulltime staff position in 2023.

Throughout her career, she has covered numerous wildfires across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. Such as the 2017 Thomas fire that burned more than 280,000 acres across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. After not even a month following that fire that tore through both counties killing two people and destroying countless neighborhoods. The1 September 2018 Debris Flow swept through the hills and neighborhood of Montecito, California killing 23 people. After seeing the aftermath firsthand of how weather events can impact communities led Martell on a journey to become a meteorologist. She received the Broadcast and Operational Meteorology Program certificate through Mississippi State University in 2023. Furthermore, Martell is honored to continue her work at NBC7 to share local science and climate-based stories alongside being a part of the First Alert Weather Team.
When not at work, she loves to stay active, working out at home with Peloton or going to HIIT cardio class. In addition, Martell is a new member of Junior League of San Diego, and she is looking forward to giving back to the community she lives and covers. She enjoys travelling and spending time in the mountains, back home on the central coast or on Kauai with her family and close friends.
