Alyssa Goard Biography
Alyssa Goard is a skilled journalist currently working as a reporter and consumer investigative producer for the NBC Bay Area Responds team from August 2022. She joined the station as a Consumer Content Producer in April 2021.
Alyssa Goard Career
Goard helps in resolving consumer complaints and distills information to help people navigate the changing world we live in. She was born and raised in the Bay Area and is thrilled to return home after six years of reporting in Texas.
Prior to joining NBC Bay Area, Goard worked at KXAN-TV in Austin , Texas for four years as a digital reporter and multimedia journalist. She was selected by Nexstar Broadcasting to pioneer a new digital reporter role to be modeled by other newsrooms. That meant Goard shot, wrote, and edited in-depth digital stories some days and edited traditional broadcast stories on other days. In addition, she regularly appeared live, on-air, and on social media channels. Furthermore, Goard covered Austin City Hall, higher education, homelessness, and environmental issues.
Her stories could take the form of edited videos for broadcast or online, written articles, and multimedia digital projects. In addition, she produced digital stories for KXAN’s Solutions Journalism projects such as the award-winning “Save Our Students” project on mental health. And the Pandemic Pass-Fail project on disparities in education exacerbated by the pandemic. Goard also broke enterprise news stories for both the digital and broadcast teams. She was also awarded the Nexstar Broadcasting’s Digital Impact Award in June 2019 for her work in that role.
Before KXAN-TV, Goard spent almost two years in KAMC 28 News the ABC affiliate in Lubbock, Texas as a reporter and multimedia journalist too. She reported the news in Lubbock as a one-woman-band: shooting, writing, and editing all her own stories for the station. In addition, Goard worked as a fill-in anchor. She covered everything from mosquitoes to murder cases, to investigative stories, to runaway cattle, and everything else in between.

She also covered the blizzard that shut down the city of Lubbock in 2015, visits from Governor Greg Abbott, Laura Bush, and Ron Paul. Goard was the station’s lead reporter on the Holli Jeffcoat murder case which led her to cover many of the changes occurring in the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. She extensively covered Texas Tech University, reporting on the implementation of Campus Carry policy, the efforts to build a Texas Tech veterinary school, and the impacts of immigration policies on students.
Goard started her career as a production assistant in NBC Bay Area for one year in San Jose, California. She wrote articles, conducted interviews and edited content regularly on NBC Bay Area’s website as a web producer. In addition, she also floor directed newscasts and operated the teleprompter and preparing the studio.
Furthermore, Goard facilitated communication between production staff and on-air talent. She also contributed story pitches for newscasts and booked guests and assisted with interviews. Goard shadowed reporters, producers, and anchors.

Previously she worked as a flight attendant at Kaiser Aircraft Industries Inc. Goard interned in various places including as a Senior Admission Intern at Whitman College. In addition, she was an intern at NBC Bay Area Investigative Unit for NBC News in San Jose, California and Re think media in Berkeley, California. Goard also interned at PBS Newshour in Arlington, Virginia and KGO-TV, San Francisco, California as a newsroom and assignment desk intern.
